I got to work this morning and to my surprise a fellow work mate brought me a full grocery sack of fly tying material. There is even moose mane in there. I can never find moose mane because it’s usually sold out or they don’t carry it. There is close to $300 of material in this sack.

    I am blessed.

That’s an advantage of being a hunter. I’ve never had to buy elk hair, deer hair etc.

I can see how you can save money that way.

I never really thought of those advantages as a hunter. I suppose after skinning it takes some special work to keep the skin and feathers from rot? I don’t know how to do any of that stuff. Grandpa didn’t hunt much after him & grandma took me in. Sometimes I wish I knew how. I like wild game.

All you have to worry about on the hide is to get all the meat off the inside of the hide. I use salt and then scrape it.

I give most of my hides to my friend. He’s 100% Lakota Indian. He makes clothing and drums from the hide. Bear hide is the best for drums.
