I see most people fishing with graphite rod. Is there an advantage to that over fiberglass or bamboo? The rod I have now is Cabelas cgr,and I’m wondering if I should had gotten a graphite rod instead?

No way. Fiberglass is so much fun because of its flexibility. Its also stronger than graphite. Graphite is brittle, and therefore easier to break. The only thing graphite has over fiberglass and bamboo is its physically lighter.

You can do everything on fiberglass that you can on graphite.

I was just a kid when fiberglass ruled the fly fishing world, and I really have limited knowledge on them. But I do know the fiberglass rod I had was really a pleasure to fish with. It was the Scott F2 703, and for small streams it was my go to rod.

There are some members here that know more about fiberglass than I. Maybe they will give you a more detailed history and info about your rod. I do know that on the Fiberglass Forum they praise your CGR rod. It was the hottest fiberglass rod going for awhile, and maybe still is.
