Right off the start I caught three trees. Ok, now that I got that out of the way, it was difficult in the Wild Basin. The water was low and clear. The shop owner at the local fly shop told me to get upstream. My question is, upstream from where?
It was tough, though I did see some small bugs flying around, but not a whole lot.But it doesn’t matter because I really don’t know one bug from another, and there was no rising fish at all. But I eventually put on a size 20 Griffiths Gnat near the end of the day. Just a single fly because for some reason going tandem didn’t feel like the right thing to do.
I started fishing around 1 pm, and it wasn’t till around 3:00 till I found a decent fish, or it found me. I now know what the guy meant by saying go upstream. He meant beyond the last parking area, but I never made it that far. He said they were up there, but how far down they have gotten since he fished it two weeks earlier, he didn’t know. But it’s ok. I figured out the mystery and that’s what matters to me.
It was a good day, a real good day.
