    Greeting fellow anglers,

I am seeking advice a 6wt fly line to match Winston WT. I am curious about modern fly lines to match that rod. I have gotten advice on rio gold fly line. Thank you in advance for all of your help.

The Rio Gold was a popular choice on the old Winston forum for the WT.

I would use (and this is just my opinion) but Airflo Elite. It’s designed for softish rods like the WT. Works well with the Redington Classic trout series. But for rods that are closer to that traditional feel, it works well.

It’s a line made of polyurethane, so deet and sunscreen won’t hurt it like pvc lines. It also stays cleaner longer and won’t crack like pvc.

The Winston WT in a 6wt is a med-fast rod. I had one. The Rio Gold is perfect for it.

With everything I have heard about the WT series, I was under the impression it was more a medium action

    Excuse my misunderstanding please.

I take back my line advice.

No, I owned 5 of them in different lengths and weights. Also 3 IM6 rods. The Peach works good on the rod, but I always felt the LT lines were a bit light. Although it will work. It just depends on what you’re looking for and how you cast. The OP gave no information, but being a 6wt I had to assume longer casts, heavy flies. and some wind. The Rio Gold fits that perfect. If all he’s doing is casting light flies on windless days. Why a 6wt?

Yes, it is the 8’6″ 6wt and has more of a medium fast action. I have tried a number of lines on the rod, and it seems to be a hard rod to match with a line. Lots of good information.

    Thanks,
    Mike
