There’s a new green stick on the market: The Winston BIII LS has officially replaced the BIIt. (Click here for Winston’s Web-Page) Sizes/Weights range from a 7′-0″ 2wt to a 9′-0″ 5 weight. The reel seat comes in two varieties, a skeletal aluminum over graphite insert (new for Winston), or the traditional Winston seat (N/S with burled wood insert).
I was (am) a big fan of the BIIt rods, and would like to give one (or two, or three…) of these a cast. Anyone had a chance to cast them yet?
Not happy with Winston dumping their forum and telling people to join them on facebook. (Yes, they just joined facebook this year) Though before that happened, I already started replacing my Winston’s with the Scott G2. Of all the rods I’ve tried I prefer the G2 over ALL of them and I find them to be excellent dry fly rods.
I used to hang out on the Winston forum. That’s a bit of a kick in the face for Winston to close it. Then again Winston lost me when they started to put boron in their rods. The old IM6 rods were the sweethearts.
Well that may be unfortunate. I liked the BiiT soo much I sold off most of my WT’s as they had a much smoother action. I think it was Sam’s best effort with Winston.
But maybe the new ones are nice, but I think I will be happy with my Biit’s for quite a while.
Also a fan of the BIIT line and sad to hear they are gone. The IIt lineup was quite diverse, I wonder if this new replacement line will be similar in that respect or basically the same action in different lengths & line weights? I’m ready to cast a few of them!
