Hey Creek, I was trying to match reels with the CGR, and the slip rings on this rod are small. I have no reels that will fit properly, and I don’t want to sand the reel seat down so I ordered the CGR reel and some 5wt. line like you suggested. As of right now the only reel I have that I can get into the rings, but barely, is my Battenkill reel with 4wt line.
That’s the only thing I don’t like about the rod. I filed the foot on the reel I use, and dedicate it to just that rod. I never take it off. Actually, I never take the rod apart either. It fits in My Jeep assembled, so I leave it that way.
I found a Cabelas Prestige reel I had put away some time ago when I upgraded, and it fits well. The slip rings seem cheap and light, and it wouldn’t take much to bend them all out of shape. Once I get the CGR reel, that will be the designated reel.
It is a type of rod I would keep in the truck, so on the days after work if I’m not doing anything I can hit the St.Vrain for a few hrs.
I don’t know what the weather’s like in Buena Vista, but here it’s called for rain and wind again. This week is supposed to be cooler and wet. I have Thurs. off, and I will get out and get wet. Today, I am planning on getting out before it blows in.
