Anyone ever use English Grouse? How does it compare to Hungarian Partridge?

I believe all those game birds have similar action in the water. I think they used different birds in the old days was because not all the birds were available in the areas the fisherman lived. They used feathers from the birds they shot to eat.

Now we use different feathers for hackle just to make a different looking fly.Do they work better? You should know my answer to that by now Scotty. 😀

Yeah, I don’t need a crystal ball for that Creek. I wouldn’t say they work better, just differently. I was really wondering how well the grouse hackle held up compared to the partridge, and if it’s worth it. A partridge skin being $35 and a bag of grouse $3.95 a bag.

I just found a discription for the grouse and it says it has tighter barring than partridge, and it’s more of a rounded feather. I guess for $3.95 I can try it and see what happens. I do like starling though. Makes a good spider.
