I used to do customer support for a water filtration company so I know a little about this stuff. Finding a good portable filtration system isn’t easy, but can be done. I personally have two types…

    Steripen UV filter
    MSR MiniWorks pump system

The Steripen just sterilizes the water.. no filtration involved. But is very easy to carry. You normally combine that with a cheap carbon water bottle filter combo. The MSR system is a bit bulky and heavy.. about the size and weight of a full water bottle, so it would double the size/weight of your water storage equipment. Best for backpacking or camping, which is when I use it.

Here’s a decent guide to show different types and needs..

I wasn’t aware of that one, but it looks good. Here is some discussion about it..

note that it doesn’t affect the taste at all, but does filter out the nasties.

I looked up some bottles, and the one that Creek uses I watched a few videos on. The folks in the videos just filled it from the rivers and just started drinking. It really has my interest. The filtration system is really good and you can clean them without having to buy a new filter.

Looked like a winner to me.

My water source is high mountain creeks. Nice and cold, and clean. I’d almost drink it straight, but i’m not that brave. I hate being sick.

Did that once as a kid. must have been 10 or 11 years old. Lets just say I wont do that again. Not a good time.

Been slow lately. I have not trout fished in a month, work, high temps, etc. Catskills have good temps and flows this week. Maybe Saturday? Renewed my NY license for another year.
