I have seen magazines & tv shows to know that women are entering the sport of fishing very quickly. And its all forms too, not just fly fishing.

But the one thing I know for sure is, there are more women fishing than what you see on tv & read about. But, you rarely if ever see them on a fishing forum. There are many I see as members on the forums list, but you never hear from them. As for this forum, I have not checked lately to see if The Dry Fly Forum has/had any.

I can’t help but wonder if they choose not to join because of no time to chat, or just don’t care to, or maybe they will feel like this is a boys club & they might feel like they don’t belong or won’t be accepted. I hope that’s not the case. Women are just as good as anyone, & probably better than some at this sport. I know for a fact some know more than I ever will.

I know there are women’s fishing groups around, and that’s wonderful. But it hit me this weekend, why don’t we hear from them on forums?

With the nicknames everybody uses now. How do you tell if someone is a man or a woman? We can be talking to a woman and not know it. That was the case for me once.

Take me for an example Scotty. You think you’re talking to a man right? Wrong, i’m Pete’s dog posting this. Woof!

I’d guess this is as likely as any reason.

There are many of them on the more popular forums. However, they still make up only a small percentage of the market. Go to one of those dreaded crowded rivers to get a good idea. Still over 90 percent men if you see 25 anglers, or 100.
