I have found that the fly shop in Longmont has a lot of their flies manufactured in Taiwan. They fall apart very easily. Some they tie themselves, and those are ok, but I won’t buy flies unless I have to.

Shoddy overseas-made flies are one of my pet peeves. I only buy flies when on a trip – if you’re going to pump the shop rats for local information it’s only right you spend a few bucks on something other than a license (which earns them maybe 50 cents) Owning a flyshop’s a difficult business and the need to control costs is understandable but flies that begin unraveling before they’ve even caught a single fish – inexcusable.

I agree with the ‘buy flies from the local shop that helps you’ approach. Even if I have a box full of what they recommend, I always purchase a mittful of something uniquely local.
Scotty: the Lightfoot should work fine, but I’d save the Anne Murray for when you’re cleaning the litter box.
Myself, I’m a 40 Creek Canadian Whisky and Mark Knopfler kind of guy, although a little Ramones will help me pick up the tying pace.

Hey, Anne was great when she sang country. She had a voice that you knew it was her as soon as she started to sing on the radio. Same with Gordon. Lots of people here dont/didn’t care for his voice. I did. I found it different. His song writing is, was, and some of the best there ever will be.

The big question is; can he fish?

You know, Ms. Murray probably is a good singer. I shouldn’t judge. I think its just that she went to the same university I did here in New Brunswick, and she sang quite a bit back then. As a ‘local’ girl, I guess we just never thought of her as a big deal. That’s hardly fair, now is it? I take the comment back; you go ahead and listen to whatever spins your hackle.

I never thought of it that way Brent. I guess being a local girl making it big in singing folks may not see it happening. But I guess it does happen. I bet the people who were local to Gordon when he was growing up probably thought the same. Heck, I went to high school with Greg Bekhart, who became a pro football player. I didn’t think he’d go that far, but I was wrong. Yeah Brent, you got me seeing your side clearly.

The only thing I know about Anne Murray is that she’s Canadian, who had a distinct voice with some good songs. But back in the 70’s, people in country music all had their unique sound, not like today. I can’t stand today’s music.

But lets face the facts. Anne Murray is not Emmylou Harris. 😃

But thanks for reminding me, I need to clean the cats litter box when I get home. I should dig out my only Anne Murray CD. 😉😀.
