O.k., this is my first attempt at this, and I bought the wax that the maker of the rod said he uses. I know not to wax the ferules, but is there anything else I need to know before I get started?

I will wait for your replies.

That’s a topic with mixed results. Some makers say to never wax it and just wipe it down after fishing it. That’s what I do.

I don’t wax my bamboo rods. Just a wipe down with a clean, soft cotton cloth before putting them away after a day of fishing.

If you’re going to do it, follow the rodmaker’s instructions to the letter.

I have read many people wax their rods at least once a year to protect the varnish and give it that pretty shiny look. All my maker says is to NOT wax the ferules.

I just remembered that he does have a page on maintaining the rod, I should try to look it up.

Keep in mind Scotty that a shiny rod is not desirable for stealth.

It’s ok, I carry a willow branch to hide behind. 😀

You need to put on some weight.
