Hello and welcome to the Dry Fly Forum. I’d like to offer my sincere appreciation to you for being here, and I hope you find a “home” here and visit often.
There are numerous websites out there that focus on fly fishing, and many of them I quite enjoy. But my true passion in fly fishing is dry fly fishing, and I pursue this segment almost religiously. I have not found a forum solely dedicated to dry fly fishing, and since I don’t have any more interest in “chuck and duck,” swinging streamers, or nymphing, than I do in drowning worms, I decided to create one.
This forum is where others with this same passion can congregate, not have to wade through the posts they have little interest in, and won’t be told for the bazillionth time that, “you’ll catch more fish sub-surface.” If you are of a similar mindset to me, you already know, “that isn’t the point,” nor why we choose to fish dry flies only.
It is my sincere hope that the Dry Fly Forum will become a vibrant community of sharing individuals, and that the information to be found here will be a valuable resource for anyone interested in dry fly fishing. I need your help to accomplish this though, as I’m only one perspective, and I certainly have finite knowledge of the subject matter. But the wealth of knowledge available from individuals across the globe, and the perspectives you all bring to this passion, can be expressed and stored here, it just takes your active participation to do so.
So regardless of whether you’re an enthusiastic beginner, or a veteran of this discipline, please add your voice to the collective, and welcome to a drag free zone.

I can hear them now David.
“Those dry fly snobs have their own forum now!”
Well, we know better than that. We’re not snobs. We just enjoy fishing with dry flies. No other kind of fishing brings the same smile to my face, so why do something that isn’t as much fun? Catching more fish doesn’t make it more fun. It’s how you catch them that’s more fun.August 15, 2013 at 7:54 am #507

Off to fish for cuts and cut bows in the the Costilla northern new Mexico. Yesterday caught some nice Brookies and one nice pure strain rio grande cut on dries. Photos to follow.

Great to see you here Les. Due to your current location, I’m assuming Aurelio is somehow involved. I’ll be looking forward to the fishing report, and please give my best to Aurelio.

I am glad to be part of this forum . I truly love to fish a dry fly. I have nothing against folks who toss a fly and go subsurface but for me a fish caught on a dry is my true reward. Something about casting a fly watch it settle on the water and see a fish chase it down for a hook up. I know that I could chuck a streamer or a nymph and increase my odds of landing fish but Its not about that. For me it’s being out on the water in beautiful places matching wits with a fish. These days mainly trout . I don’t care how many or how big . Don’t get me wrong a hook up to a large trout gets my blood flowing and you might even hear me let out a yell but I can catch a 4 inch wild Brook Trout on a Renegade and have my day fulfilled.
Again I happy to be apart of the forum. I am not a snob. I don’t think of myself better then anybody who fishes subsurface. I just like my dry fly fishing. To me it’s better then sex.

Thank you for the invitation to join your great new forum, David. I’m happy to be here. I find the dry fly, by far, to be the most enjoyable way to fish.
Les, please give my best to Aurelio and MJ. I am very envious of your trip to Aurelio Land.

David, thanks for doing a “dry fly” forum….nothing better in my book that spotting a fish, dropping a #22 Adams Parachute about 2 feet upstream from it, watching the fly drift to the fish, seeing the white as he opens his mouth, tilts up like a submarine and just lets the Adams drift into his mouth, closes, and then the fun begins!…..glad to be here…steve
